Standardizing the Web – It’s the Smart Choice

Today’s Internet is no longer the Internet we once knew. The battles of the giants (Netscape and Internet Explorer) are over. Now a new battle rages between a plethora of new browsers − Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, mobile browsers and even Google has stepped into the ring with its Chrome.
Every time a new browser or even new version of a browser hits the web you can hear the whining of developers everywhere. “What’s going to happen to my current web site or application?” or “What tiny little problems in the browser are going to bring my web site to its virtual knees?” are just a couple things that come to my mind when something like Google Chrome enters the market.
But then I remember the wonderful world of web standards, brought to you by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The XHTML standards laid out by the W3C help future proof your web sites and applications. They also help put the onus on the browsers themselves to render the pages according to the standards, which means less old school hacking around for developers and more functional web sites leaving developers and clients satisfied.
All that is left to do is for Internet Explorer 6 to completely die off.
Remember, to make sure your next project is standardized.
