“There’s an App for That”
The NielsenWire Blog recently launched its ‘App Playbook,’ surveying more than 4,200 people who had downloaded an application to their Smartphone in the past 30 days.
Some key stats from this survey are:
- 21% of American wireless subscribers have a smartphone at Q4 2009, up from 19% in the previous quarter and significantly higher than the 14% at the end of 2008
- 14% of mobile subscribers have downloaded an app in the last 30 days
- Average number of apps: Smartphone: 22, Feature phone: 10
Of these results, the survey also states that Facebook, the Weather Channel and Google Maps are in the top 4 most popular downloads on smartphones, across the board (including iPhone, BlackBerry and Android). Some other interesting statistics are that while 38% of Smartphone users download Entertainment related Apps, 30% are downloading Sports related Apps and 29% of Smartphone users download Shopping and Retail Apps.
With statistics like these, it’s clear that people are looking to their Smartphone’s to help them be entertained, gain quick information and to help give them the resources to make decisions about purchases and destinations.
