Glam taps its power source liberally
Glam Media announced the debut of the Glam Application Platform, an app developer network whose reach will comprise over 77 million monthly users.
The open source Glam Application Platform is targeted primarily to marketers targeting female users across blogs, magazine and content sites. In the style of Apple’s App Store — which served 10 million downloads on its debut weekend — apps developed on the platform will be available at the Glam Apps Store.
One example of the platform’s possibilities is the GlamTV App, which enables clients to distribute “protected” video content across the Glam Publisher Network. Monetization is split between the publisher, video provider and content owner. But Glam points out there is virtually no limit to what apps can be created: analytics, widgets, games and content syncing applications are all possibilities.
Apps can be monetized via Brand Ads, which puts advertising on each application. Developers can also select a No-Ads option. Marketers can give the apps away as free downloads or set a price point for them.
